Design Investigation

Set in the UAE, a region known for its rapid development and constant pursuit of futuristic ideals, this house proposes a counterpoint: the first step forward mav begin by looking back. In a society shaped by ambition and speed, this home invites a pause, a space to reconnect with time and place. In response to the current state of the world - and the trajectory it's on - this house serves as both an exploration and a quiet critique. As technology accelerates, we find ourselves in a virtual landscape where authenticity and identity are increasingly blurred by artificial intelligence. The only true and honest connection that will remain is human interaction. Face-to-face. The house responds to this by returning to the past. Stripping away excess and embracing a primitive, minimal existence that grounds the user in the present moment. Externally, the home stands as a windowless mass, shielding its inhabitants from the noise of the outside world and emphasizing an inward focus. A courtyard pierces through the mass, flooding the interior with natural light, air, and stillness. Materials are kept raw and tactile: stone, earth, and wood, reminding the user of their physical surroundings and grounding them in the moment. Spaces are intentionally designed as an invitation to focus on conversation, on being. Every design move is a step away from distraction and toward presence. The absence of digital screens and visual clutter challenges occupants to disconnect from the current state of the world and engage with forgotten moments: light filtering across textured walls, shadows shifting through the day, and the subtle sounds of wind and water.
